Sterling Premier®

Plan Overview

Medicare has its benefits, but it was not designed to pay all of Medicare beneficiaries' healthcare costs. It leaves some gaps in coverage that become the beneficiary's responsibility. Some of these gaps include: payment of Medicare's deductibles and coinsurance, physician charges over the Medicare allowable, emergency care while traveling abroad, and prescription drug coverage. In order to bridge some of these gaps, most beneficiaries purchase additional coverage. The most common form of coverage beneficiaries’ purchase is Medicare Supplement or "MediGap" insurance. Sterling Premier® is a Medicare Supplement Insurance product available to Medicare beneficiaries 65 and older, and in some states, disabled beneficiaries under age 65. Sterling Premier® is not available in all areas.

Advantages of a Sterling Premier® plan:

  • No network restrictions. Policyholders can choose their own physicians, including specialists, and can receive care at any hospital.
  • No referrals, pre-certifications, or pre-authorizations are required. No Utilization Review performed.
  • Claims can be filed electronically and are usually paid within five business days of receipt from the Fiscal Intermediary or Carrier.
  • No capitated payments. Payments are made under the Fee-for-Service system subsequent to payment by the primary payor, Medicare. In other words, you are paid for the services you provide.
  • This is not a Medicare Advantage plan, but a Medicare Supplement or "MediGap" plan.
  • All plans provide coverage to policyholders while traveling throughout the United States.
